2025-2026 Placement & Fundraising Opportunities

 

WSL Annual Requirements for July 2025 - June 2026:

 

SIGN UP by May 31st: Please sign up for one (1) Service Placement requirement for 2025-2026

 

Active members are required to sign up for one of these placements each year. Honorary, Associate, Life, Gold, or Silver members are exempt, but all members are encouraged and welcome to participate! 

 

NOTE: Jewel Ball, Red Haute & Maestro's Dream are fundraising placements and do not qualify as a Service placement.

 

Over the summer, the committee chair will contact you with dates, times and other details for your placement. If you have questions regarding specific committee jobs, contact the committee chair listed in the sign-up document.

Requirement/Description

Exemption

Service Placement

Active members are required to fulfill 1 Service placement each year. Members must be able to work the assigned shifts, so please review the job descriptions and time requirements for the committees listed below.  

Jewel Ball and Red Haute Committee members are still required to sign up for one Service placement.

  • Honorary, Associate, Silver and Gold members are not required to serve on a committee, but are welcome & encouraged to serve.  
  • Members of the Board of Directors or those chairing a committee are not required to sign up for a placement, as the board positions fulfills the requirement.

Jewel Ball Volunteer

Active members are required to fulfill 1 Volunteer shift for the Jewel Ball held in September. A signup email is sent in August with various volunteer opportunities available.

  • Jewel Ball Committee or Jewel Committee members are exempt, as their positions fulfills the requirement.

Spring Fundraising 

Active members are required to fulfill 1 Volunteer shift for the Red Haute Luncheon & Children’s Style Show in February OR Austin Symphony Orchestra Maestro's Dream, TBD.

  • Red Haute Committee members are exempt as their positions fulfill the requirement. 

New Member Class of 2025-2026

New Members are required to fulfill:

  • 3 Service Placement Shifts (Tuneful Tales; Halloween & Young People’s Concert (YPC); or ASO Docent)
  • 1 Jewel Ball Shift
  • 1 Spring Fundraiser Shift (Red Haute or ASO Maestro's Dream)
  • None

Tuneful Tales -- SUMMER 2025 PLACEMENT

Co-Chairs: Merrell Anne Shearer and Kaylan Brown

2025 Dates:

June: 9,11,16, 18, 20, 24, 25, 26, 27, 30

July: 7, 8, 9, 14, 16, 19, 22, 25, 30

August: 6, 7

 

Work two shifts at the Austin Central Library Amphitheater, 701 W. Cesar Chavez Street or one of the 16 local branches.  

 

Times and location varies on shifts. Validated parking is provided for WSL volunteers.

 

Assist ASO with welcoming guests, parking strollers, helping guests find seating, monitoring the instrument petting zoo for children, cleaning instruments, passing out surveys to attendees, and other general tasks.

Orchestra Relations

Co-Chairs: Katherine Morris and Laura Coombs

Committee members participate in 3 events throughout the season by providing food items and/or volunteering in person (assist with setup/take down, and serve the musicians).  

 Rehearsals are generally on Thursday evenings at the Long Center for the Performing Arts on Riverside Drive. ASO dress rehearsal schedule is once a month September 2025 - May 2026.  

 Volunteers are welcome to stay until 8:00pm to enjoy the rehearsal.

Symphony Welcome Committee

Chair: Karen Blackburn

 

Work two shifts between September 2025 - May 2026 at Masterworks Concerts, located at the Long Center for the Performing Arts -- 701 West Riverside Drive, 78704. 

 

Volunteer at ASO concerts at the Long Center to welcome guests, answer questions, and work the welcome area. If seats are available, volunteers may stay to enjoy the concert at no charge.

 

Arrive one hour before the concert begins (7 p.m.). Brief training required.

Young People's and Halloween Concerts

Chair: Eldarose Cardenas

Volunteers work two shifts during the year at either the Halloween Concert or Young People's Concerts (YPC). 

The Halloween concert is scheduled for Sunday, October 26, 2026 with arrival by 1:30 p.m. and departure by 4:00 p.m. Members will help usher families in and out of the hour-long daytime performance, assist at kid-friendly activity tables, as well as take photos at various decorated photo stations.

The spring Young People's Concerts (YPC) are scheduled to take place on the mornings of February 23-27, 2026 between 9 am to 1 pm. at the Long Center for the Performing Arts, located at 701 West Riverside Drive, 78704. Volunteers will assist with unloading students from buses, directing them to the Long Center to be seated for the concerts.

Meetings

Chair: Sarah Heidler and Ashley Jacobson

Volunteer for at least two General Meetings between August 2025 and May 2026, assisting with set-up, welcoming members, handling sign-in, general hosting, and clean-up. One volunteer will send out and manage the online invitations for each meeting. There are six General Meetings during the year with lunchtime and evening opportunities. Meeting locations to be determined. 

Availability for one daytime meeting is recommended

Member Relations

Call members to remind them to pay dues before membership cutoff. Assist with other membership committee needs as requested. Spring 2026 and other times as needed throughout the year.

New Member Recruitment & Welcome

Chair: Carly Pearson and Monica Ayala

Recruit new members into the 2026 class. Duties include planning a recruitment event, updating sponsor forms, entering info into a database, creating a welcome email, coordinating with website and committee chairs, and delivering door hangers in Spring 2026 to new members. Timeframe January-May 2026

Assist New Member Coordinators with hosting both virtual and in-person meetings throughout the year for the 2024 New Member Class. Various shift opportunities, July 2025 - June 2026

Member Enrichment

Co-Chairs: Cat Mattingly and Meredith Wood

Tasks may include setup, decorating, clean-up, welcoming members, assisting chairs with logistics, attending events, and outreach to members for participation in events. This is a great way to meet members and encourage engagement in WSL activities. Work at least one member enrichiment event between August 2025 - June 2026.

Administrative/Property Committee

Co-Chairs: Brittany Moore

Organize and maintain the WSL storage unit holdings. This is a great opportunity for someone who loves to organize. The position may also include scanning historical documents and data entry. 

Fall 2025 - Work one four-hour shift, with the date flexible at the climate-controlled storage unit on Balcones Drive. Flexible times are available in coordination with Committee Chair.

Newsletter

Chair: Andrea Jacobs

Help keep the communication flowing in the WSL by working with the Take Note Newsletter chair to publish a quarterly newsletter about events and our members to the general membership. Writers interview other members, gather photographs, and contribute 1-2 short articles per issue. Self-scheduled wtih deadlines.

A great way to meet members! Take photos at WSL events and upload them to online data storage. Camera owners preferable but phones can work for the asisgnment, too. Flexible times - July 2025- June 2026

Write thank you notes for Jewel Ball & Red Haute supporters, and others as requested. Committee members may also be asked to write notes to ASO subscribers and donors. September/October 2025 after Jewel Ball, February 2026 after Red Haute, and other dates as needed for ASO.

Symphony Done-In-A-Day

Chair: Ashley Lewis and Suzanne McAuley

Volunteer to help the ASO with small tasks and projects as they arise. Opportunities include: helping around the ASO office, envelope stuffing/invitation addressing, working various shifts at the 4th of July concert, handing out flyers at the Hartman Outdoor Concerts, helping at the Notable Dinner event in the fall, and working various shifts at the annual ASO season launch party in the spring. Work at least two shifts throughout the year, with a flexible schedule.

Technology Committee

Chair: Katie Comer and Robin Miller

Assist the VP Technology and VP Technology-Elect in event management in Better Unite, membership data transfer between software platforms, and event registration for fundraising events. Previous technology experience is not necessary! This committee is for anyone interested in how events are managed, is a problem solver, and curious to learn a user-friendly software program. Flexible times throughout the year.

Docent-Young People’s Concert

If you are a former theater kid, gifted storyteller or experienced teacher, this might be the volunteer opportunity for you!

 

Visit local fourth and fifth grade classrooms to present an interactive 40-minute presentation ahead of the Spring Young People’s Concert.

 

The 40 minute presentation includes information about the concert theme, featured music selections and composers, embedded audio excerpts, and concert day etiquette expectations
