Since 2019 our organization has been engaged in providing support to the members of our community experiencing, unsheltered homelessness, food insecurity and economic setbacks. We operate a community food pantry in Elgin, SC to help combat food insecurity. Additionally, we provide furniture to Veterans transitioning out of homelessness into independent living through our Veteran 2 Veteran Program. Our Bridging the Gap Programs provides computers and network services to low income families, job training and mentorship to our clients. Through our mobile outreach program we take resources such as food, toiletries, clothing and other essential items into unsheltered homeless communities. We assist our clients with applying for medical assistance, supplemental income, VA Benefits and vital records request.
The goal of our programs is to serve more people in need and bring in specialist to address specific needs hindering the growth and progression of our clients. Currently food insecurity is a huge issue throughout the country so that is one of our primary focus areas for this project. Accessibility to resources is another issue. Through our programs we teach our clients how to access the resources available to them and we will assist them with navigating those resources through training and workshops. We take resources into areas where unsheltered homeless reside who are not in reasonable proximity to shelters, city/county resource centers, bus routes etc. We offer assistance with completing applications for benefits, assistance, care etc for those who want to improve their situation. Our program also supports those who have transitioned into independent living by providing resources that would otherwise cause them financial setbacks in order to free up finances to cover rent and utilities.
