Join Urban Roots for #GivingTuesdayNow on May 5th at 1:00 PM CDT for a live-streamed conversation with Urban Roots youth and world-renowned Food Justice Advocate, Raj Patel.

Here’s something to celebrate: Urban Roots is joining nonprofits around the world for #GivingTuesdayNow. Join us for an Urban Roots Virtual Luncheon on Tuesday, May 5th at 1:00 PM CDT, featuring a live-streamed conversation with Urban Roots youth and world-renowned Food Justice Advocate, Raj Patel, in celebration of #GivingTuesdayNow. Tune in to hear an Urban Roots youth in dialogue with Mr. Patel, an update from Executive Director Max Elliott, and a prize drawing of three farm experiences!

We know times are tough. That’s why we’ve decided to use #GivingTuesdayNow to come together to celebrate the strength and resilience of our farm in this time of uncertainty.

Acts of generosity make us resilient. The event is free with a suggested donation of $50. Help us raise $5,000 for #GivingTuesdayNow to offset the costs of planting, tending, and harvesting our farm so that we may continue to feed our neighbors and continue youth programming in this uncertain time.

Plus, order lunch from our official event Lunch Partner, Chi’lantro, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Urban Roots! Be sure to place your order by Monday, May 4th at 12 p.m. to receive your lunch delivery on May 5th. Upon check out, enter this code to receive free delivery: UrbanRootsDelivery. Please note: all deliveries, no matter the time requested online, will be delivered anytime between 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. on May 5th. Also, there is a $10 minimum order amount. This lunch is available for Delivery only, so do not select "Pick Up" at check out.

#GivingTuesdayNow is a worldwide day of giving and unity, on Tuesday, May 5th. In response to the urgent needs caused by the COVID-19 Crisis, this day of solidarity invites the community to come together to give to nonprofits and perform acts of generosity for our neighbors, even while socially distant. In addition to this event, we are joining nonprofits across Austin to fundraise though I Live Here, I Give Here starting now through May 5th. Donate now in honor of this global day of giving to support our youth programming, the farm, and our dedicated staff.

RSVP today to attend the event! We hope to see you there!

$100 Youth Programming

While COVID-19 forces us to social-distance, Urban Roots youth programs have transitioned online. Urban Roots remains committed to growing the next crop of young leaders in Central Texas and is working rapidly to adapt our programs for virtual learning. More than ever, while furloughs sweep across every sector and industry, we believe in the importance of paying our interns. While youth programming continues virtually, please consider donating $100 to help us pay intern stipends!

$50 Urban Roots Farm

As “nourishing the community” becomes more urgent, Urban Roots is working to increase the amount of produce we donate to Hunger Relief partners as well as diversify organizations we partner with and the communities we serve. Unfortunately, COVID-19 has forced us to pause youth and volunteer programming on the farm, resulting in the loss of the physical labor we rely on to feed our neighbors. We are calling on our community to help us purchase organic fertilizer, wax boxes, and tools so that we may continue to feed our shared community. Donate $50 to cover the cost of farm supplies!

$25 Urban Roots Staff

While youth interns and volunteers are kept off the farm, Urban Roots staff is dutifully planting, tending, and harvesting produce on the farm. Our staff is proud to be nimble and responsive during this time. Unfortunately, reduced fundraising and an uncertain philanthropic landscape means that there are no guarantees about the future of our organization and its structure. We ask that you consider making a gift of $25 to help us pay our staff as they care for the Urban Roots Farm.
