Two Sisters, One Mission: Help Us End Teen Dating Violence in Texas
Hi! Did you know that nearly 1 in 3 teens in the U.S. will experience some form of dating violence? Here in Texas, organizations like Texas Advocacy Project are working every day to change that — and we're proud to be part of that fight. We're Sydney and Sophia Prewitt, and we're Teen Ambassadors of Hope with Texas Advocacy Project (TAP). This is Sydney's 2nd year as a Teen Ambassador and Sophia's 1st. We each want to share a little bit about why this cause matters to us — and why your support matters so much.
Sydney's Story
I decided to become a Teen Ambassador last year because I wanted to learn more about the cause and how to advocate against teen dating violence. This year, this cause hits close to home and means so much more to me. At just the age of 14, one of my friends was sexually assaulted by her now ex-boyfriend. She didn’t know what was happening because he was manipulating her into thinking she was fine. It wasn't until a month after he broke up with her that she realized that he was hurting her. I saw firsthand what it did to her, physically and emotionally. She didn't deserve to become a statistic, she didn't deserve to suffer, and she didn't deserve to become a victim. No one does. Your donation can help make sure fewer teens go through what she did. I care about Texas Advocacy Project and the work that they do, especially this program, because they help countless people every year — educating teens about dating violence and teaching us what we can do when we or a peer are in an unhealthy relationship. This program changed my life, and with your support, it can change so many more.
Sophia's Story
I decided to become a Teen Ambassador this year because domestic violence is unfortunately something I could face in my life due to the high prevalence of it among people under 18 — and no one deserves that. I have learned so much in my short time with the program. Last year, I heard a speech at the Black and White Ball from a survivor who shared her story of escaping an abusive relationship. Her courage truly touched my heart and opened my eyes to how real this issue is — even for people my age. Through TAP, I've gained skills I will carry with me forever — like how to recognize the warning signs of an unhealthy relationship and how to safely support a friend who might be in danger. These are skills everyone should know. Texas Advocacy Project is changing and saving lives, and with your help, they can reach even more people who need it.
Help Us Reach Our Goal
As Teen Ambassadors, we are working to advocate for healthy relationships and against teen dating violence. We are showing people that teenagers can be a powerful voice for big issues like domestic violence and power-based abuse. Our goal is to raise $5,500 by April 26, and every dollar makes a real difference! Donate today and help two sisters make Texas safer for every teen. Any donation, big or small, brings us closer to our goal. Thank you so much! We cannot do any of this without your support! 💜💜

About Texas Advocacy Project
Texas Advocacy Project (TAP) provides free legal and social services to survivors of dating and domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, stalking, and human trafficking in Texas. Established in 1982 by a group of young lawyers, TAP started as a legal hotline. In the decades since, they have evolved into an expert on legal issues affecting survivors. They offer a statewide legal line, free civil legal services, and social services tailored to survivors’ unique challenges. TAP’s solutions provide both immediate protection and long-term stability, including protective orders, termination of abusers’ parental rights, and child custody modifications. They also assist with civil legal matters that can impact abuse cases, such as housing, employment, education, and financial empowerment.
