Volunteers Make the Indy Swap Meet Happen
Volunteers have been key to putting on the Indy Swap Meet since it was started in 1973. Thank you volunteers for all that you do for the cycling community!
There are several volunteer jobs that you can have and still attend / peruse the Indy Swap Meet as a buyer. Vendors can also sign up to volunteer, but may want to stick to the early setup and later clean up shifts.
Doors open to the public at 10:30 am and the Indy Swap Meet closes at 1:30 pm. We are planning to award a Best In Show bicycle based on attendee votes at 1:00 pm, voting closes at 12:45 pm.
There will be a Slow Social Ride starting at 1:15 pm from just outside the Indy Swap Meet. There are 2 ride marshal volunteer roles available to help the group stay together, assist in crossing intersections, and to ride at the tail end of the group.
You can sign up for multiple volunteer roles. Just make sure the time slots don't overlap.
Saturday, Feb 7th, 8:30 am to 9:15 am - Prepare room, remove chairs and move tables. Set up bike racks and place signage.
Saturday, Feb 7th, 9:00 am to 10:30 am, Manage vehicle access to building during vendor load-in
Saturday, Feb 7th, 9:00 am to 10:30 am - Early registration check-in for vendors and bike sales. Two volunteers will be checking in vendor tables, and the other two will be checking in bike sales.
Let attendees know the swap meet opens to the public at 10:30 am.
Saturday, Feb 7th, 10:30 am - 1:30 pm - Check-in attendees and answer questions.
Gather and count the votes for "Best In Show."
Saturday, Feb 7th, 10:00 am to 12:00 pm - Keep an eye on bikes in the bike corral, and direct potential buyers to contact sellers at their table or via phone number on the bike's tag.
Assist with Bike Corral Check-in before the Swap Meet opens to the public at 10:30 am.
Sat. Feb 7th, 12:00 am to 2:00 pm - Keep an eye on bikes in the bike corral and direct potential buyers to contact sellers at their table or via phone. Reconnect unsold bikes to their owners.
Remind folks to get their Best in Show vote turned in before 12:45 pm.
Saturday, Feb 7th, 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm - Cleanup, remove bike corral racks, place tables and chairs in their proper spots.
Saturday, Feb 7th, 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm - The SAD-urday Slow Social Ride will start at 1:15 pm from right outside the Indy Swap Meet. We'll do a 10-15 mile social slow ride on multiuse trails and neighborhood roads in the area. This is a recurring Winter ride, but we're shifting the start location and time to match the Indy Swap Meet on Feb 7th.
The ride will include a post-ride refreshment stop at Yazsh Cafe & Bistro, right across the street from Arsenal Tech. Yazsh is a Central IN Cycling sponsor and has a 20% discount for Central Indiana Cycling members!
Volunteer ride marshals will help keep the group together, assist in crossing intersections, and one or two of the ride marshals will ride at the tail end of the ride.
