This walk is deeply personal to me. I'm walking in memory of my mom, Sandra C. Hernandez, who believed in me every step of the way. As a first-generation college student, I often found myself navigating unfamiliar territory. She didn't always know what I was doing (college applications, internships, or graduate school were all new to our family), but she never stopped encouraging me.

She may not have known the path, but she walked it with me.

Today, I support Con Mi MADRE because I know how powerful it is when a student has someone who believes in them, and when families are given the tools to navigate the college journey together. My hope is that more first-generation students, and the mothers who love them, have access to the guidance and opportunities that can change the course of their lives.
