Every nesting season, the Cape Romain Sea Turtle Team patrols remote beaches, monitors loggerhead nests, and moves vulnerable nests away from rising tides. It’s hands-on work that takes dedicated people—and your support.

For 40 years, this program has helped protect loggerhead nests in Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge. Today, nearly half of South Carolina’s loggerhead nests are laid within the refuge. In 2026 alone, more than 3,000 nests were recorded on Lighthouse, Cape, and Bulls Islands.
