Dear Patterson Associate-
Rebuilding Together is partnering with Patterson Real Estate Advisory to provide home repairs and improvements for a senior homeowner living within SW Atlanta. Rebuilding Together-Atlanta is a part of the national affilate network and is thrilled you are volunteering with us. You will be supporting Charley Baker, who has lived in his home for 50 years. Please join us on Thursday May 8 for the 2025 Patterson Real Estate Day of Service.
Meet the Homeowner
Charley Baker
Mr. Baker has called Georgia home his entire life. Born in 1953 at Grady Hospital—a self-proclaimed “proud Grady baby”—he was named after his father and raised in Fulton County, where he built a quiet, meaningful life defined by hard work, deep faith, and unwavering love for his family and community.
A former employee of the local water company, Mr. Baker followed in the footsteps of his parents—both Atlanta natives who instilled in him the values of care and compassion. His mother, a nurse, modeled a life of service, a legacy that would later echo powerfully through Mr. Baker’s own journey.
For the past 27 years, Mr. Baker has lived in his cozy home, a 100 year old house nestled in a peaceful neighborhood. “Not much has changed around here,” he says "and I like it that way."
For 37 beautiful years, Mr. Baker was married to his late wife, a nurse and the love of his life. Together, they didn’t just build a family—they expanded it. The couple opened their hearts and home to children in need of love and stability, creating a sanctuary grounded in care and kindness. “She was my everything,” he says quietly. “I miss her every day.”
Charley has one daugther that lives in Minnesota with her own family, and he beams with pride as he prepares to travel north for his grandson’s upcoming graduation. “It’s a blessing to see the next generation grow,” he says.
Though he’s now retired, Mr. Baker’s days are far from idle. He remains a devoted member of his local church and spends his time serving others—driving elderly neighbors to the store, helping with groceries, or simply lending an ear. “We’re supposed to look out for each other,” he says. “Unity among people is what keeps us going.”
At 71, Mr. Baker’s energy rivals that of someone half his age. He credits his strength to a healthy lifestyle grounded in faith—running six miles daily, doing pushups, and eating well. “Keeping a faithful active lifestyle is key,” he smiles.
More than just a homeowner, Mr. Baker is a pillar of his community. His story is one of love, loss, resilience, and grace. Through every season of life, his commitment to faith and service has remained steadfast, offering a powerful reminder that home is more than just a place—it’s a reflection of the heart that lives within it.
Mr. Baker's home is 100 years so has multiple needs, this includes a roof, windows, doors, electrical, and a fence. In addition, he needs support with yard work, yard clean up, landcaping, lawn maintance, declutering inside the home, and replacement of mailbox and house numbers. He will be receiving a roof through the RTA Roof Replacement Program using a Federal Grant through HUD. The deck, yard, and landscaping also need attention. As he has aged, Mr Baker has found that that basic activities of daily living have becoming more challenging as of late, in particular his ability to maintain his deck and yard.
Thank you for your time and commitment to Rebuilding Together Atlanta, and serving a senior homeowner in need of home repairs. We look forward to seeing you on Thursday May 8.
The fundraising goal for this project is $2,000.00. This will help cover project expenses, dumpster, materials and tools needed for the volunteer day of service. Please donate to to help Charley with needed home repairs.
