Pictorial Embroidery | Saturday, November 21 | 10am-4pm
Instructor: Victor Barratt
Students will learn to apply the basics of hand stitch embroidery, working on a project of choice
themed around the idea of “Stitch Your Story.” Opportunities to mix in beadwork, patchwork &
applique techniques will be available.
Students are encouraged to bring a reference image that is important to their personal story; a
personal photograph or illustration to base their design on.
All materials will be provided. This class is for all levels of sewists & crafters!
Instructor Bio: Victor Barratt (He/Him) is a fashion designer & textile teaching artist specializing in textile
labor history & storytelling through fabrication. Based in Akron, Ohio, his studio practice
consists of custom costuming work for local drag performers & collaborations with textile
artists across the country. He is a current Rustbelt Fibershed Value Chain Producing Member,
& can be found vending or tailoring from his home studio in Akron most days. Notable clients
include Ru Paul’s Drag Race Season 17 winner Onya Nurve & Canadian Latin-Pop Artist
Isabella Lovestory for whom Victor has created touring looks.
He has held two New York Fashion Week shows, at The Living Gallery (2025) & the New York
Public Library for the Performing Arts(2024). His work has been featured locally in The
Parisian Experience (2025) in Akron, Art as a Form of Protest (2024) as well as Wearing
Justice & Queer Voices (2019) held at Kent State University. He also enjoys teaching
workshops on historical sewing techniques, emphasizing the use of accessible & sustainable
design with natural fibers.
