Instructor: Jenn Lander

In this two-day hands-on workshop, students will explore the ancient art of turning fiber into yarn. The class begins with introductions and a look at the historical roots of spinning, from early spindle use to the invention of the spinning wheel. Participants will learn about different types of wool fibers and their unique properties. Guided by the instructor, students will practice spinning on drop spindles before progressing to wheel spinning, examining a variety of wheel styles and their functions. Through demonstrations and individual practice, new spinners will gain confidence in creating their own yarn, experimenting with different wheels under the instructor’s guidance. The class concludes with an introduction to plying and finishing techniques, resources for continued learning, and a group reflection on the spinning experience.
