Charlie's Garden + How To Get Involved

Charlie’s Garden offers the veteran community a welcoming space to connect with nature, strengthen community bonds, and promote personal well-being. In partnership with Libertad Farms (veteran-owned), this garden serves as a space for healing, learning, and shared purpose. Through hands-on activities and connection with nature, Charlie’s Garden supports growth, builds community bonds, and regenerates the land.

Why: Veterans and service members often face challenges transitioning to civilian life and rediscovering their sense of purpose. Charlie’s Garden provides a space for participants to:
  • Reconnect with nature to reduce stress and enhance your overall well-being.
  • Participate in activities that promote growth and community support.
  • Engage in sustainable practices that nurture the land and local ecosystems.
How: Charlie’s Garden offers participants opportunities to engage with nature through interactive workshops while developing practical skills. Workshops include:
  • Gardening Fundamentals and Herbal Gardening: Learn site preparation, planting, and sustainable gardening practices, while exploring the culinary and medicinal uses of herbs.
  • Homesteading Skills: Gain self-reliance skills such as composting, food preservation, and seed saving.
  • Beekeeping Workshops: Learn about the role of bees in ecosystems through expert-led workshops.
  • Birdwatching and Ecosystem Integration: Discover the benefits of incorporating wildlife into natural spaces.
How Can You Get Involved?

1. Attend Our Gardening Workshops: We will host at least eight workshops from now through October. This is a wonderful opportunity to utilize our garden space and acquire skills that you can apply to your home or anywhere you'd like! No prior gardening skills are needed. Check the Calendar page to sign up.

2. Donate: Your charitable contributions support the materials and resources needed to maintain our garden throughout the year. Any amount is welcome - link here

3. In-Kind Donations: we are always in need of soil, mulch, plants, seeds, and equipment. For the list of needs, please contact garden@patriotshall.org

4. Volunteer Your Time: we have many different volunteer opportunities throughout the year - dedicated work days, general ongoing maintenance and more! If you have not signed up to volunteer, please see this link. We will also post all volunteer opportunities in our weekly newsletter.

5. Visit and Enjoy the Garden! We welcome all our members to visit the garden at any time of day to sit, enjoy, and take in the beauty that the garden has to offer. This is a special place where everyone can relax and enjoy.

6. Food Delivery Days! We plan to donate the fruits of our garden to veterans in need. Check the Calendar page and volunteer emails for sign-ups to help deliver to local charities!

Thank you to all the volunteers and sponsors for your generous support!
