There’s new meaning in the number 90 for me this year.

My dad’s birthday is coming up on April 17th. He passed away at the age of 90 a few years ago. And as Easterseals of Southeastern Pennsylvania marks its 90th anniversary this year, I find myself reflecting on two lives that never crossed paths - until now, through me.

My dad’s greatest impact was, without question, on his family. He lives on in me, in my brother and sisters, and in the lives of our children. But his influence reached well beyond us. He moved through life with a quiet, humble warmth and a simple way of being: show up, accept what is, and get it done. No need for perfect conditions - just be steady, honest, and do your best.

That’s where the parallel feels less than coincidental.

For 90 years, Easterseals has done much the same - showing up for children and families, embracing challenges without easy answers, and creating space for dignity, growth, and joy. Like my dad, its work reflects progress over perfection - grounded, consistent, rooted in connection and in a belief in people.

Ninety years is a lifetime of ordinary days, strung together with purpose. When I think of my dad, and when I think of Easterseals, I see the same truth: that real impact comes from showing up, doing the work, and leaving people and places better than you found them.
