Shannon & Nathan Carter
Shannon & Nathan Carter moved to the Graves Mill area in 2008 and have built their lives around family, land stewardship, and community involvement in Madison County.
Nathan manages Rapidan River Ranch, a 2,000+ acre regenerative cow-calf farming operation and has served the community for eight years on the Madison County Parks and Recreation Board, currently as Chairman. He has long been involved in youth sports including coaching MCPR youth soccer for many years, and 2026 will be his third year coaching MCHS Varsity Boys Soccer team.
Shannon is an artist and a former business owner. She now manages Graves Mill Farm, hosting environmental education programs, artist residencies, and partnerships with local organizations, such as the Madison County African American Historical Association, Piedmont Environmental Council, The Smithsonian’s Virginia Working Landscapes, and the Firnew Farm Artist’s Circle.
As longtime Madison residents and parents, Nathan and Shannon are honored to support the Boys & Girls Club of Madison and its work serving local youth and families by Dancing for the Stars!

Boys & Girls Club of Madison is a safe place where children ages 5 to 18 participate in year-round enrichment programs. Full-day programs this past summer were filled with learning, laughter, and lasting moments. Club members stayed on track for the school year with Daily 20/20/20, our program that dedicates 20 minutes each day to reading, writing, and STEM. Funds raised through Dancing for the Stars help the Club maintain membership fees of only $75 for the school year and $100 for the summer, so that we can be a safe and reliable resource for young people to learn, grow, and have fun.
