The term tequila, which originated from the Nahuatl (Aztec) language, translates to "the place where plants are harvested." Tequila is an intellectual property of Mexico. This spirit has an appellation of origin, allowing Tequila to be produced in only five regions in Mexico—Guanajuato, Michoacán, Nayarit Tamaulipas, and Jalisco. However, 99% is made in Jalisco. The blue agave plant can take between 8 and 12 years to harvest and grow as much as 7 feet tall.
