The Pioneer Mill Smokestack is one of the few historic sites in Lahaina that only received minor fire damage in August 2023. Lahaina Restoration Foundation members raised over $193,000 to begin the repair process. These repairs revealed something unexpected… and unwanted.

Upon opening the concrete walls, workers discovered the structural rebar was compromised. This damaged rebar will eventually fail and put the whole structure at risk! It is urgent to remove the damaged rebar in phases and weld in new rebar. Then the sections will be sealed in with concrete and heavy duty rubberized paint.
