Gun violence in the USA is a human rights crisis. Despite having one of the highest rates of gun violence in the world, the USA has not taken practical steps to implement violence reduction or prevention. The USA is failing to meet its obligation to protect and promote human rights. A black male aged 15-34 is more than ten times more likely to die from firearm homicide than a white male of the same age group. In 2018, 1,637 children died from firearm-related violence in the US.
Impact Empowerment Group has launched a huge initiative called the iCare Campaign. This campaign does three amazing things:
1. Life coaching and support for gang prevention.
2. We push for legislation that closes all loopholes related to firearm possession and sales.
3. Send out crisis teams to ensure survivors of gun-related violence have access to affordable and quality care.
This cause is extremely urgent because an average of 106 individuals die every day from a firearm and gang-related deaths. In 2018, 39,000 people were killed by gun violence. An additional 116,000 suffered non-fatal firearm injuries. 22% of all firearm acquisitions are conducted without any background check.
