Support Jack's Big Hearts Walk for St. Mary’s Kids!
On Sunday, May 17th, our family will be joining hundreds of community members at Crocheron Park in Bayside, NY, for The 20th Annual Big Hearts Walk for St. Mary's Kids. I’m asking for your support honoring our Jack and other St. Mary's children. St. Mary’s Healthcare System for Children is a lifeline for more than 2,000 children and young adults with complex medical needs every year. These incredible kids and young adults face challenges most of us can hardly imagine, yet their courage, determination, and joy inspire everyone who meets them. St. Mary’s provides specialized care, rehabilitation, education, and countless opportunities for children to learn, grow, and thrive—no matter the medical obstacles they face. This event isn’t just a walk. It’s a chance to make a real difference for families who rely on St. Mary’s. Every dollar raised helps fund vital programs and services, from cutting-edge therapies and equipment to adaptive recreation and family support.
Why I’m Walking
Our son Jack was born at 25 weeks (1lb 12oz) and spent 114 days in the NICU. He faced developmental delays and had many milestones ahead of him-ones that we weren't sure if he would ever reach.
When we finally brought Jack home, he began services through St. Mary's, which was highly recommended by the hospital where he was born. As first-time parents and to a child with special needs, we were scared. But a St. Mary's team was formed for Jack and services began the following week of him being home.
Jack started working with a feeding specialist, physical therapist and occupational therapist. The way each therapist instantly bonded with Jack, worked with him with incredible skill and care, while also teaching us as parents how to support Jack, was truly unmatched.
I'm walking with my husband not only for the children under the care of St. Mary's but also in honor of the wonderful therapists who have made it possible for Jack to progress as well as he has.
Jack is almost 3 years old now and full of personality. When he runs, he's hard to catch. When he speaks, you never know what's he's going to say next. He has a heart full of love for his therapists, and I truly believe he understands how important they all are and what a big part they have each played in his life thus far.
Because of their incredible work, Jack is where he is today. His potential is endless, and his strength continues to grow.
