Say It Right: How to Have Difficult Conversations That Build Trust

A management training for restaurant leaders who want to communicate with clarity, care, and confidence.

Running a restaurant means navigating constant communication; with your team, guests, and community. But what happens when the conversation gets hard?

This 2-hour, interactive session helps chefs, managers, and owners lead through tough conversations while building a workplace rooted in respect and belonging. You’ll explore real-world hospitality scenarios and learn how to connect communication, accountability, and legal safety in ways that strengthen your team and culture.

By the end, you’ll walk away with:

  • Tools for approaching difficult conversations with empathy and clarity
  • Frameworks for accountability that align with your values
  • Language to reduce conflict and build stronger, safer teams

About the Presenter:

This training is delivered by Good Work Austin (GWA), a local nonprofit that supports food workers and business owners through advocacy, training, and workforce development. GWA’s membership includes restaurant workers, business owners, and community advocates working together to strengthen Austin’s food and beverage industry.

Our mission is to build a more just, equitable, and people-centered industry — one where good jobs and thriving businesses go hand in hand. We envision a future where every food and beverage workplace in Austin offers fair pay, safe conditions, and a culture of respect for everyone.
