Supporting Siblings & Families of Critically Ill Children
In Partnership with Children’s Hospital
When a child is hospitalized with a critical illness or undergoing cardiac surgery, parents naturally focus their attention on the child receiving care. But brothers and sisters are walking through that difficult journey too.
Through the Femi’s Heart Siblings Support Initiative, we come alongside siblings and families during these challenging seasons with practical support, encouragement, and compassionate care.
In partnership with Children’s Hospital, this initiative helps provide resources such as:
-
Support backpacks for siblings
-
Meal vouchers to help ease the burden on families during hospital stays
-
Comfort and encouragement items for siblings
-
Age-appropriate activities and resources
-
Family support designed to remind caregivers and siblings that they are not walking through this journey alone
Why This Matters
Hospitalization can affect the entire family. Siblings may experience fear, uncertainty, disrupted routines, and less time with their parents while their brother or sister receives critical care.
A backpack or meal voucher may seem simple—but during a difficult hospital stay, a thoughtful act can communicate something powerful:
“We see you, too. You matter. You are not forgotten.”
We as Femi's family understood firsthand what it meant for an entire family to walk through a child’s serious health journey. Today, through her legacy, we have the privilege of helping other families know that they do not have to walk theirs alone.
One child may be the patient—but the whole family deserves care.
