Gabriella is a very artistic six-year-old who often finds connection through creativity! Gabriella, who has Down Syndrome and autism, attends Easterseals inclusive preschool, the Friendship Academy. Since she began attending the program at age three, Gabriella has increased her communication by learning to use a communication device. She has learned to follow a routine, and that structure has allowed her to blossom. Gabriella is much more social and is quickly learning her letters and numbers. One of the things her parents like most about the program is that, like them, the teachers and therapists are focused on her strengths, rather than weakness. With a focus on possibility, it’s no wonder Gabriella is always happy to go to school, especially now that her three-year-old brother Kai is in her class. Her favorite things to do at school include anything that is a group activity, especially if a craft is involved. When she’s at home, she loves to do any type of arts and crafts, but her true passion is painting! She also loves to make sure each of her dolls is wrapped snugly like burritos. Gabriella has lots of pets at home including two dogs, two lizards and her favorite, a cat. There is also a squirrel named Harry that she helps her mom feed every day. Gabriella loves to try new things. With the support of her family and her team at Easterseals, Gabriella’s balance of curiosity and confidence create limitless possibilities. We can’t wait to see what she decides to do next!
