Overview
What is a mollusk? How can we tell what organism lived in a shell? Join us for Beachcombing to find out & explore different critters that live at the Preserve!
Participants in this program will explore the beach and shallow waters of the Indian River Bay for shells and shelled organisms. This program will focus on the mollusks and other critters that call the Inland Bays home. As a group, we identify and discuss different plants and animals that we can find here at the James Farm Ecological Preserve!
This program is geared towards adults, as there is a large information portion to the program, but participants of all ages are always welcome!
Participants will be around the water, so please wear clothes and shoes that can get sandy. Closed-toe shoes are encouraged. Don’t forget to bring water, sunscreen, and insect repellent, as the Preserve can be buggy at times.
We’ll walk approximately 0.5 miles to and from the beach, with a portion of the program spent walking by or in the water at the beach.
Important Notes:
Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.
This program is weather permitting.
Attendance is free, but registration is encouraged. We reserve the right to turn away walk-ups if necessary.
For the privacy and comfort of our participants, staff, and volunteers, video or audio recording is not permitted during our programs. Guests are welcome to take photographs, but we ask that you do so in a way that respects the privacy of others. Thank you for helping us keep our programs safe and welcoming for everyone.
