THE DISEASE
Autosomal Dominant-Retinal Vasculopathy with Cerebral Leukodystrophy (AD-RVCL), previously known as CRV, is a rare inherited disease. This condition affects small blood vessels, especially those supplying the retina and various parts of the brain. Over five to ten years, it leads to progressive vision loss and the destruction of multiple brain cells, resulting in brain damage and eventually death.
Currently, there is no treatment or cure. Patients typically show no symptoms until their early 40s and have a life expectancy of 5 to 10 years after diagnosis or the first onset of symptoms. In families carrying the CRV gene, there is a 50 percent chance that each child will inherit the disease.
Many of you know that we lost our beloved Kim Morey (61) in 2024 to this devastating disease. Previously, it claimed the life of Kim's father, Danny Garrison, at age 49. Now, Kim's eldest son, Tyrus, has been diagnosed with CRV, and the chances remain 50/50 for Kim's other two children, Ashton and Nate.
With two hospitals nationwide actively working on finding a cure, it's time for us to contribute to funding this effort. The condition is often misdiagnosed as a brain tumor, stroke, or multiple sclerosis. The current goal is to find a treatment that can replace, bypass, correct, or counteract the effects of the defective protein. Due to the limited number of families diagnosed with this disease, there are insufficient funds to continue research.
