Beavers Northwest, Bats Northwest, and the Woodland Park Zoo are teaming up for our first Beavers and Bats event of the year at 7:30pm on July 28th at Juanita Bay Park! Participants will meet near the parking lot at Juanita Bay Park.
We will spend the first portion of the evening looking for beavers, and discussing the crucial role they play in our local ecosystems. We will then spend time learning about the bats in our region before participating in the Woodland Park Zoo's Bat Activity Trends (BAT) community science program!
The BAT Program empowers community members to help with local bat conservation and coexistence by going out for 30 minutes after sundown and documenting bat activity. This data is then added to a growing, community science informed map of the location and activity of bats in the city.
The event will last approximately 2 hours and participants will travel a distance of approximately 1 mile on flat gravel trails and boardwalks. We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes and to dress for the weather. For best viewing of wildlife, we recommend bringing binoculars. We will have a few pairs available to borrow.
