Learn to DJ Workshop

Join us for a dynamic 4-day workshop where you'll dive into the exciting world of DJing. Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to enhance your skills, this workshop is designed to provide you with the knowledge and tools you need to kickstart your DJ journey.

Session 1: What is a DJ & Their Relationship to a Song Date: March 9, Time: 1-2:30 pm

In this session, you'll learn about the role of a DJ and their relationship to a song. Topics include understanding BPM, key, melody, and phrasing, as well as downloading and using Mixxx, a DJ software. Get hands-on with crate setup, music organization, and gear tour. Homework includes downloading Mixxx and selecting two songs to work with.

Session 2: Doing the Mix! Date: March 16, Time: 1-2:30 pm

Discover the art of mixing! Learn about playback responsibilities, beat-mixing, transitions, sync, hot cues, loops, EQ, filters, and effects. Get ready to put your skills into action with practical exercises. Homework includes practicing transitions and setting loops and hot cues.

Session 3: Practice Makes Perfect Date: March 23, Time: 1-2:30 pm

Put your skills to the test! Work on your songs, finalize transitions, and present your work to the class for feedback. Explore the next steps in your DJ journey, including filling your crates, getting gear, online platforms for playing, promotion, and legal considerations. Homework includes refining your transitions and preparing for the showcase.

Session 4: The Showcase Date: April 6, Time: 1-2:30 pm

It's showtime! Invite guests to our Class Rave, where you'll have the opportunity to showcase your DJ skills. Each student will play their two songs, practicing the DJ handshake and transitions. Join us for a celebration of your journey and achievements!
