Mia loves to move. Whether its playing on the swings, dancing, or going to the gym at school, movement is her favorite sensory experience. Mia is five years old and has autism. She began attending Easterseals Approved Private School when she was three. When her parents took a tour, they felt like everything in her classroom, from the tables to the toys, had been geared towards Mia. Since she started at Easterseals, Mia has gone from nonverbal to easily communicating her wants and needs. Her improved communications have reduced frustrations that often led to challenging behaviors. She has become more social and loves pretend play – especially the Barbie Dream House. Mia also loves books and is reading independently. As a big fan of music, singing and of course dancing, it’s no surprise she’s a bit of a Swifty! But her current musical passion is Wheels on the Bus, and she is happily exploring and enjoying every version she can find. Her parents say she wouldn’t be where she is today without her team at Easterseals. And today, Mia is a happy, bubbly kid who likes to kick-off her shoes…and socks…and just move. We can’t wait to see what she decides to do next!
