We Roam Freely Inc. began in April 2019 with a mission to aid women and non-binary artists of color in showcasing and selling their work. So far we’ve supported over 40 artists who have displayed and sold their work in our New York art shows with no commission collected. In 2020, we expanded our team! And with that, amplified hundreds of artists’ stories across our digital platforms, started a webinar series that will take artists from hobbyists to entrepreneurs, and hosted community-building art events. We’re only just getting started!
This year, our focus is building unrestrictive grants and impactful residency programs for our community.

Systemic oppression has spread its roots deeply in the economic and showcasing industries of the Arts. Not only are showcasing fees extremely expensive and out of reach for low-income creatives but the materials to create great work are often costly and inaccessible. Requirements to exhibit, including MA art degrees and extensive experience, exclude communities who didn't have access to certain education and opportunities as a result of systemic oppression.
The lack of support for these artists creates a gap in the representation of women and non-binary artists in galleries and in museums. Now more than ever, we need to amplify the voices of our community and work towards equality in the arts.
We Roam Freely works to increase the representation of women and non-binary artists of color.
Our monthly cash grants are designed to encourage creative work within these communities. We are working to partner with companies that hold similar values in order to bring work and live-in residencies to emerging artists. Our team has been hands-on with building free webinars that can all be found on one platform. Pre-COVID, we organized in-person art shows with a lower and more flexible barrier to entry. We don't charge any commission on works sold in our shows. We are currently working on a multi-day virtual art show that will take place before the end of 2020. This will allow artists all over the world to connect with communities safely.
Based on a survey we took within our artist community, we have identified that artists want larger cash grants to complete their projects, more opportunities to sell their work, and educational workshops on how to manage, market, sell and showcase their art. With your contribution, we will be able to meet these needs and empower the artists within our community.
