Also known as Eden Gardens, La Colonia is one of the oldest residential neighborhoods in Solana Beach. It was formed in the 1920s by Mexican farmers who were hired to work in nearby lima bean fields or on the large ranches in Rancho Santa Fe. These farmers, who wanted their families nearby, founded La Colonia De Eden Gardens.
In 2011, after decades of service, some community members joined together to form La Colonia de Eden Gardens Inc., to empower local youth to make positive choices and to improve the availability of resources for all residents. Collaborators include St. Leo Mission and St. James Church, the City of Solana Beach, Solana Beach Library, the County of San Diego, San Diego County Sheriff’s Department and numerous nonprofit groups and businesses.
The Sand Dollar Foundation has chosend to focus it's support on this amazing organization for the last 10 years. We have had the great pleasure of watching this community grow exponentially as a result of LCEG's massive efforts. All funds raised will go directly to La Colonia De Eden Gardens and it's families.
