What is UNIFIED SPORTS?
UNIFIED SPORTS is a Special Olympics-supported program that offers students with and without intellectual disabilities the chance to practice and compete together on sports teams. Within the Huntington Beach Union High School District, schools have engaged in friendly competition across various sports, including Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, Flag Football, and Track & Field. Additionally, the district has embraced Unified Cheer, E-Sports, and a Baseball Clinic.
To ensure the success of these initiatives, funding is crucial. The funds raised contribute to various needs, such as uniforms, transportation costs, coaching stipends, lunches on tournament days, and other expenses associated with maintaining a high-quality Unified Sports Athletic program.
Special Olympics initially provided a grant to kickstart the program in the district. Thanks to the ongoing generosity and support from events like this golf tournament, we have been able to establish a self-sustaining program. This achievement means that Special Olympics can allocate their resources to assist other schools in developing similar programs, extending these life-changing opportunities to even more students. Your continued support is instrumental in making this inclusive sports program a lasting success.
