The mission of the Wrangell Mountains Center is to connect people with wildlands through art, science and education
We are based in the spectacularly beautiful remote Alaskan town of McCarthy, and each summer we introduce students, scholars, artists and adventurers to the Wrangell Mountains -- and to our unique mountain community. We host artists in residence, facilitate research and college-level programs, conduct writer's workshops, sponsor camps and activities for youth, create spaces for community discussions, and more.
In everything we do, the Wrangell Mountains Center seeks to open a window onto the wonder of the Wrangells and build connections between people and wildlands
We believe in the importance of wild space, we believe in our community, and we believe in connections. We also believe in the power of stories. Sharing stories is an ancient art form that brings us together. Tall Tales is an event that we hope will entertain and inspire you.
