The mission of the Wrangell Mountains Center is to connect people with wildlands through art, science and education
We are based in the spectacularly beautiful remote Alaskan town of McCarthy, and each summer we introduce students, scholars, artists and adventurers to the Wrangell Mountains -- and to our unique mountain community. We host art events and Artists in Residence, facilitate research and college-level field programs, conduct writer's workshops, sponsor camps and activities for youth, create spaces for community discussions, and more.
In everything we do, the Wrangell Mountains Center seeks to open a window onto the wonder of the Wrangells and build connections between people and wildlands
We believe in the importance of wild space, we believe in our community, and we believe in connections. We also believe in the power of stories. Sharing stories is an ancient art form that brings us together.
October 16, 5pm (AK time) is our Virtual Showcase
- Gather with your WMC friends, catch up with McCarthy neighbors, and watch professionally produced highlights from this summer’s grassroots storytelling festival.
- We have created and produced quality video and audio recordings from the three-day storytelling festival. We will have a selection of videos interspersed throughout the virtual event, designed to give you a sample of the highlights from the 2022 grassroots storytelling festival in McCarthy-Kennicott. There will be short clips and video collages along with a few particularly entertaining stories in their entirety. All interspersed in a virtual event where you can re-connect with your WMC friends and McCarthy neighbors.
- Register: wrangells.org
