Why I Support RIA, Inc.
RIA is a one-of-a-kind organization with an unwavering vision.
A world where people’s bodies are not victimized, exploited, bought, or sold
for the sexual gratification of another.
I believe this shouldn’t be a lofty vision—it should be the bare minimum we expect from a just society. But for far too many women and girls, that’s not their reality. They are exploited, stigmatized, and far too often ignored or vilified—when what they need is to be seen, heard, and supported.
"What About Consenting Adults” and “Why Don’t These Women Just Leave”?
I know some people wonder: Why does it matter if it's between two consenting adults? The reality is far more complex.
True consent requires real choices.
Many women face coercion, manipulation, threats, or extreme dependence on their trafficker for basic survival.
Consider this:
- Research indicates that the average age of entry into prostitution is ~14 years old. At such a vulnerable age, informed and voluntary consent is highly questionable.
- Many don’t recognize what’s happening. Grooming and psychological control often leave victims believing they’ve chosen their situation. These emotional ties can be as strong as physical restraints. Link
- A survivor shared: “I stopped blaming myself for believing the lie that I chose to be exploited and learned all about psychological coercion—the method traffickers use to exploit 78% of their victims.”
This is why I’m raising $10,000 for RIA.
RIA is women-led, survivor-informed, and provides critical support—meeting women where they are and walking with them toward healing and freedom.

Outside of the Cambridge courthouse where 28 "high-profile" men were supposed to show up for their probable cause hearings for buying sex. Only 2 of the 28 showed up.
With the amazing RIA staff (clinical therapy, mentors, executive committee). All of RIA's peer mentors are survivors.
