On March 23, 2022, I lost my father, Master Sergeant Alvin J. Scott, to cancer. My dad was many things—a dedicated soldier, a loving father, a mentor to many—but above all, he was a man who loved to cook. For him, cooking was not just about preparing meals; it was a way to bring people together, share stories, and create lasting memories. Whether it was a family gathering, a community event, or just a regular Sunday dinner, my father was happiest in the kitchen, surrounded by loved ones.
My father also had a deep passion for supporting children and young people, mentoring them and helping them navigate life's challenges. He believed in the power of nurturing potential and providing opportunities for growth. That's why I can think of no better way to honor his memory than by supporting The Arts Empowerment Project's (TAEP) culinary arts program and kitchen renovation.
Why This Fundraiser Matters
The Arts Empowerment Project provides high-quality arts programming, enrichment experiences, and social-emotional development for children who need it most—those in need of access to light, hope, equity, and opportunity. With your help, we can ensure that the kitchen at TAEP is renovated and ready to serve as a hub of creativity, learning, and nourishment for the children of Charlotte.
My goal is to raise $3,000 by October 28th, which would have been my dad's birthday. This amount represents just 10% of the current estimated budget for the kitchen renovation. Every dollar raised will bring us closer to creating a space where children can learn the art of cooking, develop new skills, and build the confidence to pursue their dreams.
