About Somebody Cares New England

Somebody Cares New England is a 501c-3 non-profit, Christ-based community caring organization.

We serve our community through our youth center, food pantry, and holiday outreaches.

Youth Center

Do you remember being a kid? Imagine growing up in an inner-city neighborhood where poverty, drug use, and violence are common. This is Mount Washington – our neighborhood. We know many of the children and youth here and we know they need a safe place to be and to make friends.

Our Youth Center on the Hill is filling this need. Now open three days a week, our mission is to train and equip young people to face life’s challenges with confidence, competence, and dignity, and to create and maintain a safe, interactive, fun learning environment that offers instruction. In our first year, 2019, the Youth Center on the Hill served 102 youth!

The best news is this – kids’ lives are changing. They are able to manage conflict and express their feelings in a healthy way. Many teens have increased their attendance at school and improved their grades. On top of this, several of them desire to serve their community and they volunteer with us! We have also seen growth in our younger group, with children learning new skills, gaining positive friendships, and demonstrating responsibility.

In 2021, we plan to launch Phase 3 of the youth center which will provide even more opportunities for life skills training, and an addictions support group for teens. Your support today will help make this possible!

Food Pantry

Our Food Pantry provides nutritious meals for 600-1100 individuals each month. Through our two mobile pantries, we bring food directly to seniors in our community. We also host a large monthly distribution at our own facility, as we meet the needs of those around us.

When COVID shut down many food pantries in the spring, we quickly pivoted so we could stay open. In addition to using masks and gloves, we shifted our entire operation to an outdoor distribution, providing clients with bags of groceries directly in the trunk of their car and a second point of distribution for our guests who walk to our facility.  Our numbers have skyrocketed as the need continues to grow.

Your support this year will directly impact families in need. We count it a privilege to serve our community during these challenging times.

Holiday Outreaches

At Somebody Cares New England, we love Thanksgiving and Christmas!  What a joy it is to partner with donors and provide turkey and ham dinners to families in need!  We collaborate with Toys for Tots to provide gifts for children 12 and under. We also provide gifts for teenagers through the generosity of SCNE donors.

Our gift distribution is one of our most "sought after" volunteer opportunities...because it's just such a joy!  Volunteers get to escort parents through a winter-wonderland of toys, and parents get to "shop" for their child.

Somebody Cares New England also collaborates with the Haverhill Police Department, DCFS, the Mayor's office to host neighborhood meetings and to also serve as a voting location. In addition, SCNE has collaborated with many other churches and organizations throughout the region to impact those in need.
