This picture.
It’s just one moment frozen in time.
It just doesn’t capture the moments of uncertainty before hand.
It doesn’t capture the internal struggle of facing your fears.
It doesn’t capture the innocence.
You see, two weeks ago, Bowie, our not even a year old rescue bulldozer with lots of rambunctious energy and was part of a puppy play time that knocked down this little girl and her friend. She watched her older friend, her mentor per se, get hurt. There were lots of tears from both of them.
Today they were back together.
And our little friend was having a hard time regulating her fears as the dogs ran around their home.
After putting out some fires I found my way to the situation, reminded everyone that Bowie didn’t do anything wrong. He was a puppy who was playing with his friend. We are going to continue working on his spacial awareness as he grows up. But really, he is just a baby, and he was probably pretty sad she was afraid around him. I watched her body language relax as we talked. She understood. She too had been little and accidentally hurt someone she cared about.
I asked her if she wanted to snuggle Bowie and tell him that it was okay. That she wasn’t mad and that she knew he was her friend.
This is the moment this picture captures.
I’m pretty sure as the weeks come and go these two are going to be close friends.
And I’m sure there is a lesson for us all to learn in this… sometimes it takes courage to face our fears but we never have to let fear win.
