Proximate is an independent media organization that helps people navigate this transition.

We report on emerging ideas, convene leaders across sectors, and surface the people and organizations building more participatory, community-led approaches to solving public problems. Rather than covering each field in isolation, we connect the dots across them—helping practitioners learn from one another and bringing promising ideas into the mainstream.

Our work is built around three core activities:

• Report. We publish journalism, interviews, analysis, and research that identify important trends before they become conventional wisdom.
• Convene. We bring together funders, practitioners, researchers, journalists, and movement leaders for conversations that build relationships and generate new collaborations.
• Influence. We help shape how the social sector thinks and talks about emerging ideas, creating space for more nuanced conversations about power, participation, and community leadership.

Since launching in 2023, our work has reached readers in more than 100 countries and has been used by foundations, nonprofits, governments, researchers, and journalists seeking to understand where the social sector is headed.

Everything we publish is freely available because we believe the ideas shaping the future of the social sector should be accessible to everyone.
