Parent Advocates for Transformation and Healing (PATH) emerged from the vision of passionate individuals who recognized a significant gap in Florida’s child welfare system. For over 50 years, Florida has concentrated on “saving children,” with an emphasis on adoption and “forever families” for those facing abuse and neglect. This narrative has shaped public perception, overshadowing the complexities and injustices inherent in the system.
In Florida, parents' voices have historically gone unheard, which is why PATH was established. An important aspect of this narrative is that data reveals most children enter the system due to neglect—often rooted in poverty and the repercussions of unjust policies or childhood trauma—rather than intentional abuse. The public needs to understand the profound harm caused by separating parents and children.
