In this lecture, Fr. Jim will explore how young adults navigate the critical period of emerging adulthood, developing moral understanding, forming values, and making ethical decisions in complex social, cultural, and personal contexts. He will discuss practical insights for families, educators, and communities supporting this vital stage of life.
About Fr. Jim
Fr. Jim Lies, C.S.C., Ph.D., is a priest of the Congregation of Holy Cross and Senior Advisor for Faculty Fellow Affairs and Partnerships at the Nanovic Institute for European Studies at the University of Notre Dame. He is also Professor of Teaching in the College of Arts and Letters. Fr. Lies’s academic work focuses on the intersection of psychology, diplomacy, and moral development, and he regularly teaches courses on these subjects at Notre Dame. He's been a Holy Cross priest for nearly 30 years, having spent six years in London (2017-2023), most recently as academic director. Having returned to campus, Fr. Jim teaches in the Keough School for Global Affairs, and is the Priest-in-Residence in Duncan Hall.
