Geology Program 2026 - Volcano Tour

Explore the natural wonders of the Lake City area with geologist Harvey DuChene!

Explore the volcanic history of Colorado’s Lake City area on a half-day driving tour led by local geologist Harvey DuChene. Visit dramatic overlooks and scenic viewpoints while learning how ancient eruptions that shaped the landscape. The tour is mostly vehicle-based with minimal walking, and participants should bring basic outdoor essentials and plan to carpool, as transportation is not provided.

  • Tour is $45/person.
  • No children under 12 years old.
  • Tours can be scheduled “on demand” but require a minimum of 6 participants and depend on the availability of Harvey DuChene. All dates are subject to change and are weather-dependent.
