Every child deserves to walk into the classroom feeling confident, prepared, and ready to learn. At Jewish Family Service LA (JFSLA), our Tools for School event helps make that possible for kids across Los Angeles who are facing financial hardship.
This year, our Community Impact Network (CIN) and Young Leaders are coming together to assemble hundreds of backpacks filled with brand-new school supplies. These backpacks go directly to students and families served through JFSLA’s SOVA Community Food & Resource Program and JFS Hope domestic violence services.
For many of these kids, a backpack filled with supplies is more than just tools—it’s a boost of confidence. It helps them feel supported, seen, and ready to succeed.
Your gift directly provides the supplies students need:
- $50 provides rulers for more than 50 children
- $100 provides colored pencil for more than 120 children
- $160 provides composition notebooks for about 100 children
Every dollar makes a difference, helping set kids up for success and supporting families in our community.

JFSLA’s SOVA Community Food & Resource Program supports individuals and families experiencing food insecurity by providing groceries, hygiene products, and connections to additional community resources. For many families already navigating financial stress, receiving school supplies can ease one more burden and help children start the year ready to learn.
About JFS Hope
JFS Hope offers support for survivors of domestic violence and their children in a safe, trauma-informed environment. Through confidential shelter, counseling, and supportive services, JFS Hope helps families heal, rebuild stability, and move toward safety and hope.
