About The Event

A limpia is a traditional cleansing practice & ceremony utilizing plants, prayer, and each of the elements. The limpia can help us encounter our emotional pain so we can face, feel, and integrate. The point of the limpia is also to call our spirit back into our body so we may return to our true selves again. Our time will begin with a platica on the limpia before we go into our community self-limpia ceremony together.

About The Facilitators

Batul True Heart (they/them) and Gualikuya Mariposa (they/them) are two spirit, queer, and indigenous traditional healers, community herbalists, and death companions. Through their project, Floripondio End of Life Planning and Services, they offer culturally conscious death care and education to Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous, People of Color and all dying allies via the time honored perspectives and practices of traditional medicine. With deep listening, presence, the support of the elements and their ancestors, Batul and Gualikuya specialize in holding space for folks in times of transitions.

What Does QTBIPOC Mean?

QTBIPOC is an acronym for 'Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous, People of Color'. QTBIPOC means that someone identifies as Queer or Trans AND as a Black, Indigenous Person of Color. Though we use this acronym throughout our work, we recognize its limitations. We also appreciate and use the collective term 'People of the Global Majority' (PGM). PGM reminds us that Black, Indigenous, and People of Color represent over 80% of this world’s living population. Additionally, we recognize that there is a wide range of identities and vocabulary that people use to describe their sexualities and genders. We honor and center people who identify as LQBTQIA2S+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and/or gender expansive, queer and/or questioning, intersex, asexual, two-spirit, and more).
