Speak Up, Be Heard: Communication Skills for a Respectful and Safe Workplace
Designed to empower restaurant workers with real tools to navigate the everyday challenges of communication, bias, harassment, and conflict. It starts from the truth that restaurant workers deserve not just to survive but to belong, to feel respected, protected, and valued at work.
You'll learn a framework for communication that connects dignity, equity, and compliance because what’s good for culture is also protective against harm, burnout, and legal risk. Each part of the presentation builds toward a workplace where workers can speak up, support one another, and create a stronger team culture.
This training is delivered by Good Work Austin (GWA), a local nonprofit that supports food workers and business owners through advocacy, training, and workforce development. GWA’s membership includes restaurant workers, business owners, and community advocates working together to strengthen Austin’s food and beverage industry.
Our mission is to build a more just, equitable, and people-centered industry — one where good jobs and thriving businesses go hand in hand. We envision a future where every food and beverage workplace in Austin offers fair pay, safe conditions, and a culture of respect for everyone.
