Untangling Whiteness: A Path to Wholeness is a feature-length documentary exploring the historical, legal, and cultural construction of “white” identity in the United States. The film examines how European cultural legacies were intentionally diluted in the creation of a monocultural system rooted in dominance and control over Black and Indigenous peoples, cultures, and land.

Through historical analysis, personal reflection, and contemporary storytelling, the film investigates how generations of Europeans who became “white” adapted culturally and behaviorally within this system, and how those adaptations continue to shape society, communities, and relationships today.

The documentary also explores trauma responses — including freeze, dissociation, fight, and flight — and how they have become intertwined with internalized beliefs of supremacy, separation, and disconnection. Over time, these adaptations have caused harm not only to Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color, but also to white people themselves.

At its heart, Untangling Whiteness seeks pathways toward healing, accountability, and reconnection. The film highlights tools, practices, and methodologies that support white people in reclaiming their humanity and wholeness while building new cultural legacies rooted in interdependence, dignity, responsibility, and mutually respectful relationships across difference.

We are currently fundraising to continue filming, editing, and completing the documentary, with the goal of bringing the finished film to theaters, communities, and audiences across the United States and beyond.
