The DreamBig College is on a mission to reduce Anxiety and Depression through the Girl Power Movement, for teen girls between the ages of 12-18. This Movement is designed to create safe spaces where teen girls will develop a positive sense of self as they discover, activate and amplify to become Ambassadors of Change within their communities.

Anxiety and depression occur in both genders, but by the teenage years, girls are much more at risk than boys.&nbsp; According to research, the 2019 CDC report, indicate girls mature, in terms of their emotional recognition, faster than boys, illustrating a difference in genders in favor of girls at 15.9% vs. 7.7% for boys. That sensitivity could make girls more vulnerable to anxiety and depression. Therefore, 

 
In addition, COVID-19 has disproportionately affected our girls. Within our service areas, of the Greater Hartford Community, our girls&rsquo; social, emotional and mental well-being, have been greatly challenged.

We serve a population of Black, Hispanic and low income girls and their families.&nbsp; Hartford, like other communities of color throughout the world are in dire straits as a direct result of this pandemic. Being one of Connecticut&rsquo;s, three poorest cities, COVID-19 has revealed and widened that inequity gap in systems in Hartford. These inequity gaps have created constraints which have compounded service barriers within the Economic, Health and Educational systems. 
 
Over the past five years the DreamBig program has served over 800 girls globally. With the launch of the Girl Power Movement, we looking to increase these numbers by partnering with more schools and organizations to engage 300 girls within the coming year. Girls will engage in either the I Am Girls&#39; project (school-base) and/or Girl Power Circle (girl support group) which are all based on our Courage to Soar Framework. This Framework is designed to create safe spaces for teen girls to discover their voices and become Change Makers. Girls engaged in this movement will discover their Girl Power Gems&nbsp;by &nbsp;developing &nbsp;a deeper sense of self and&nbsp;&nbsp;a mental wellness toolkit to SOAR into Life.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

As a non-profit organization, we need your support to achieve this mission. We are inviting you to be part of our and become a Friends of the DreamBig College. These are Friends are individuals who will donate towards our scholarship fund as we offset the cost of attendance for our girls. The monthly cost of attendance for our Girl Power Movement is $45.
