For its inaugural year in Washington, DC, Cocktails for a Cause brings together community leaders, corporate partners, and supporters for an evening built around generosity, visibility, and purpose. This FREE event centers on a spirited guest bartender competition, where teams fundraise in advance and then step behind the bar to rally their networks, energize the room, and inspire giving in real time.

This isn’t your average midweek happy hour. The event centers around a spirited guest bartender competition, where teams of community leaders, corporate partners, and supporters fundraise in advance and then take timed shifts behind the bar—mixing drinks, rallying their networks, and fueling friendly competition throughout the evening. It is also mission-driven fundraiser designed to turn connection into action. Every dollar raised helps Cancer Support Community provide free support, trusted resources, and compassionate community for people impacted by cancer, including patients, survivors, caregivers, and loved ones.

The evening is a celebration of creativity, competition, and community in support of a cause that touches every neighborhood, workplace, and family. In its first year in DC, Cocktails for a Cause is about building momentum, inviting new champions into the mission, and establishing a signature experience rooted in purpose from the very beginning.

How it works

Form Your Team

Participate as a two-person guest bartender team, commit to a minimum fundraising goal of $2,500, and take a timed shift behind the bar—combining your creativity, connections, and competitive spirit to make the greatest impact.

Fundraise

Each team receives a personalized online fundraising page along with resources, tools, and support from Cancer Support Community to help engage your network and reach your goal.

Take Over the Bar

During the event, teams rotate through 30 minute shifts behind the bar—serving drinks, energizing the crowd, and encouraging donations in real time.

Win the Sunburst Cup

The team that raises the most funds earns bragging rights and takes home the CSC Sunburst Cup.
