About:

"Felix Ever After" voted onto Time Magazine’s List of the Best YA Book of All Time and a Stonewall Honor Book, is a revelatory YA novel about a transgender teen grappling with identity and self-discovery while falling in love for the first time, by award-winning author Kacen Callender. Felix Love has never been in love—and, yes, he’s painfully aware of the irony. He desperately wants to know what it’s like and why it seems so easy for everyone but him to find someone. What’s worse is that, even though he is proud of his identity, Felix also secretly fears that he’s one marginalization too many—Black, queer, and transgender—to ever get his own happily-ever-after. Felix Ever After is an honest and layered story about identity, falling in love, and recognizing the love you deserve.

"Henna Wars" also landing on Time’s List of the 100 Best YA Books of All Time and by debut Bangladeshi and Irish author Adiba Jaigirdar, is “impossible to put down” according to Kirkus. Nishat doesn’t want to lose her family, but she also doesn’t want to hide who she is, and it only gets harder once a childhood friend walks back into her life. Flávia is beautiful and charismatic, and Nishat falls for her instantly. But when a school competition invites students to create their own businesses, both Flávia and Nishat decide to showcase their talent as henna artists. In a fight to prove who is the best, their lives become more tangled―but Nishat can’t quite get rid of her crush, especially since Flávia seems to like her back. As the competition heats up, Nishat has a decision to make: stay in the closet for her family, or put aside her differences with Flávia and give their relationship a chance.

"All Boys Aren’t Blue" by writer and activist George M. Johnson is “a personal examination of what it's like to grow up as a black and queer young person” and is “a can't-miss collection." Featured as Amazon’s Best Book of the Year, in a series of personal essays, a prominent journalist and LGBTQIA+ activist George M. Johnson explores their childhood, adolescence, and college years in New Jersey and Virginia.  Both a primer for teens eager to be allies as well as a reassuring testimony for young queer men of color, All Boys Aren't Blue covers topics such as gender identity, toxic masculinity, brotherhood, family, structural marginalization, consent, and Black joy. Johnson's emotionally frank style of writing will appeal directly to young adults.

"The Fabulous Zed Watson" published just this year in January of 2021, co-authored by child-parent duo Basil Sylvester and Kevin Sylvester, is a vibrant and enormous-hearted story about friendship, identity, and belonging. It features illustrations by celebrated author and illustrator Kevin Sylvester, and an Own Voices perspective based on Basil’s experience. CM Magazine praises the book for its “heart and humor” and calls it a “delightful road trip novel for young readers”.

Little Humane addresses younger readers with themes that help inspire humanity. What's inside the books they provide? Little Humane Books is all about stories that inspire a more humane world. Every day we see an even bigger reason to expose the type of books and educators that give parents the resources to show kids what we need to do today to enjoy every single tomorrow. Little Humane Books provides families and schools with carefully curated monthly packages of children's books based on 8 themes that cultivate humane values.

Each package comes with a book synopsis to encourage conversation about the themes it discusses, a children's activity sheet to discuss ways to create a more humane word, and a bookmark (of course). Plus the first package comes with a fun "do not disturb" door hanger that lets kids announce when they are reading their new book!

Our books are full of inspiration to help children develop their reading skills and shape a more humane world. We curate our books based on 8 themes that cultivate compassion:

Human Rights & Equality

Environmental Care

Activism

Cultural Diversity

Animal Welfare

Peace & Gratitude

Health & Well-being

Humane Living

Our books are screened by parents, teachers, plus kids as well, and are often recommended by experts in humane education. Discover the book themes & current favorites in our library!
