About Us

During Patrick McNamara's 11-year battle with brain tumors, his family, friends and neighbors would often join together as "Pat Mac's Pack" to participate in events that raised funds for pediatric brain tumor research and Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago. After passing away at the age of 13, Patrick's family and friends committed to continue to fight in his honor - incorporating Pat Mac's Pack, Inc. as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization in 2014. Our mission is to raise funds for pediatric brain tumor research and provide financial assistance to young cancer patients and families.

Who is Pat Mac?

Patrick McNamara was a selfless, fun loving child who never let the diagnosis of a brain tumor burden him or prevent him from living life to the fullest. In Pat's 13 years of life, he endured more than 15 brain surgeries, multiple rounds of chemotherapy and radiation treatments that made him lose his hair, a portion of his hearing and occasionally his energy - but never his winning spirit and love for family and friends.

Our Impact

Since our establishment in 2014, Pat Mac's Pack has donated more than $1,000,000 to our dual mission of supporting brain tumor research at Lurie Children's Hospital and providing financial assistance to young cancer patients and families.

Giving Levels

$2,500 Family Champion

Pat Mac’s Pack supported more than 60 families in 2021, and a $2,500 donation will support one family of a young cancer patients. Often, caring for a child with cancer causes one or both parents to work less, and it becomes more difficult to pay medical bills, rent or mortgage, car repairs or travel expenses. These donations help the families of young cancer patients pay some of the expenses that are hard to meet.

Pat Mac’s Pack is proud to have funded a dedicated research nurse for the section of Neuro-Oncology for a 3-year term. Working closely with principal investigators, the research nurse will bring expertise to help launch new studies, educate families about the benefits of participating in the study and care for and monitor children throughout the lifecycle of the trial. This type of position is not funded by the clinical trial funds, making your support critical for the launch of this new 3-year role. Funds raised will help us continue to support critical research at Lurie Children’s Hospital.
