Sister Jean Ellman is a School Sister of Notre Dame who has dedicated her life to education, faith, and service. Inspired by the example of her teachers and the stories of sisters serving communities around the world, Sister Jean discovered her calling to religious life and joined the School Sisters of Notre Dame after high school.
For more than 45 years, Sister Jean served as an educator and principal in Milwaukee middle schools, along with roles in Hispanic ministry and community outreach. Her ministry has taken her across the United States and internationally, including work with migrant communities, the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota, and educational immersion experiences in Mexico.
Today, Sister Jean continues her commitment to service through volunteer work with Casa Romero Renewal Center, Voces de la Frontera, and the Milwaukee Repertory Theater. She enjoys reading, walking dogs, sharing her love of teaching, and building connections with people from diverse backgrounds.
Sister Jean is excited to participate in Milwaukee Stars Merengue and dance in support of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School Milwaukee students.
