EJ 2076: Make America JUST Again

A 50-Year Plan to Advance Democracy, Environmental Justice, and Health Equity

WHAT'S HAPPENING?

This annual event will convene community members, advocates, nonprofit organizers, policymakers, researchers, and students over five days for an in-depth examination of ongoing environmental, climate, and energy justice issues. The last two days of the symposium will focus on issues specifically affecting the Mid-Atlantic region, with a special spotlight on Washington, DC, while the first three days (virtual) will examine issues in a national and international context.

ABOUT THE SYMPOSIUM

This year’s gathering carries profound significance. Under the theme “EJ 2076: Make America JUST Again,” with the tagline “A 50-Year Plan to Advance Democracy, Environmental Justice, and Health Equity,” we are framing this symposium as a pivotal strategic convening. As the nation marks its 250th anniversary, we are called to critically examine the foundational injustices in our environmental and health landscapes while collectively building a roadmap toward the nation's 300th anniversary in 2076. The EJ movement's legacy of community-led struggle, from Warren County to present-day battles against emerging threats like AI data centers, informs our path forward.

#CEEJHejsymposium2026 will convene over five days, bringing thought leaders, frontline community advocates, grassroots organizers, public health practitioners, policymakers, and emerging EJ leaders to shape the next half-century of environmental justice. The program is designed to bridge virtual accessibility with impactful in-person connection:

  • Virtual Sessions (September 15-17): Three days of national and international dialogue, keynote addresses, and capacity-building workshops.
  • In-Person Sessions (September 18-19 in Washington, D.C. Metro Area): Two days focused on Mid-Atlantic and local DC issues, featuring solidarity tours, an art exhibit, plenaries, cultural events, and the 2nd CEEJH INC Environmental Justice Impact Awards.
